Starco Lighting LED Retrofit for West Seneca High School
Project Overview
In 2018, Starco Lighting successfully retrofitted over 25,000 T8 fluorescent fixtures with 13W LED T8 lamps and socket kits at West Seneca High School in Buffalo, New York. The project was aimed at modernizing the school’s lighting infrastructure to improve energy efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, and create a brighter and more comfortable learning environment for students and staff. To ensure a smooth and timely execution, Starco Lighting collaborated with John W. Danforth Company, one of the largest and most reputable contractors in the Northeast United States. Their expertise ensured the project was completed efficiently, with minimal disruption to the school’s daily activities.
Challenges and Solutions
The school faced several challenges with its outdated T8 fluorescent fixtures. These systems consumed significant amounts of energy, required frequent maintenance, and provided inconsistent lighting that impacted the learning environment. Recognizing the need for a cost-effective and long-lasting solution, Starco Lighting provided their 13W LED Type B T8 lamps and Socket kit as a direct replacement for the existing fluorescent tubes. The retrofit brought immediate benefits, including a dramatic reduction in energy consumption—up to 60% savings—and an extended fixture lifespan that significantly reduced maintenance costs. The new LED lighting also improved the overall quality of illumination throughout the school, making classrooms, hallways, and gymnasiums brighter and more visually comfortable for students and teachers.
Client Satisfaction
Throughout the project, Starco Lighting engaged with Joe Farr, Superintendent of West Seneca Central Schools. Superintendent Farr expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, particularly highlighting the quality and durability of the LED tubes. He noted that the longevity of Starco’s LED solutions exceeded expectations and brought significant value to the school district.
“We are extremely pleased with the performance of Starco’s LED solutions. The lighting quality has been exceptional, and the longevity of the products has far exceeded expectations.”
— Joe Farr, Superintendent, West Seneca Central Schools.
Results
The installation of over 25,000 LED T8 lamps delivered measurable and long-term improvements for West Seneca West High School. Energy savings were realized immediately, helping reduce operational costs for the school district. The improved lighting quality enhanced the learning environment by providing consistent and bright illumination throughout classrooms, hallways, and the gymnasium. Additionally, the reduced need for maintenance has minimized disruptions and lowered associated labor costs.
